Some of you may know that I am strong supporter of sustainable and eco-conscious products and with summer arriving in full swing, I thought it was the perfect time to share with you a company I recently discovered that is socially, economically and environmentally sustainable. “Made in Spain, designed in Barcelona and inspired by Hawaii” Alohas are promoting and encouraging a socially conscious and sustainable lifestyle by selling traditional Avarca sandals.

Alohas was founded by four friends who have always had a close connection to solving social and environmental problems. From raising money to support the relief effort after the 2010 Haiti Earthquake to simply organising a beach clean up in Kailua, Hawaii, the common ethos of these four friends was to give back to local communities and live a more socially conscious life. The idea of Alohas was born while they were living abroad, they took a bit of their Spanish heritage with them by wearing their traditional Avarca sandals. After receiving so much positive feedback they decided to launch Alohas, the sandal based business would “help boost the Spanish economy, shed light on the Spanish culture, but simultaneously be something FUN.”

The sandals are handcrafted by artisans in Spain to ensure that they are manufactured under ethical and sustainable working conditions. Fine leather is used for the upper part of the shoe while recycled rubbers make up the sandal’s soles. With the purchase of each Alohas sandal, part of the profits go to the Step by Step Project which aims to take care of the planet, people, and profit by creating fun and sustainable events with the help of different NGOs around the world.” Perfect for summer and those trans-seaonal months, these versatile sandals come in a range of colours and textures!
