Five minutes with KARMME bags

Unique, artisanal and functional, are the three words that best describe Sydney-based bespoke leather clutch brand K A R M M E. Founder Imby Langenbach always had a love and desire to create, but it wasn't until after receiving neck surgery and trying to find an alternative to the classic shoulder bag that the idea of creating leather clutches, or as she likes to call them "her ladies" came to be. "K A R M M E is all about creating beautiful and practical pieces that cross age, stage of life and even gender boundaries." The aesthetic is clean and minimalist with a focus on craftsmanship and traditional techniques, including her signature Shibori leather range.

Shibori is a Japanese dyeing technique which produces patterns on fabric, this gives a beautiful organic pattern every time, making each bag truly unique. Langenbach was introduced to the technique after receiving a kit for her birthday and attending a workshop with Karen and Pepa from Shibori Textiles. She fell in love with the technique and now lines all her plain leather clutches with Shibori fabric and continues to work collaboratively with Shibori Textiles on creating leather Shibori bags, including her latest limited edition collection BLOOM and BLUSH.BLOOM was inspired by the colourings of the Australian pink cockatoo, soft tones of blush pink, coral, dove grey and crisp white coincide with an artistic brush stroke design created using wax resist lines, to form a feminine yet edgy bag perfect for Spring. I instantly fell in love with both the colour palette and creative design, as most of my wardrobe is made up of monochrome colours, BLOOM is the perfect addition to add a pop of colour and I love the fact that it is a functional and wearable piece of art.
